I watched my 5-year-old son scale a 6’ pasture fence with ease the other day. My momma’s heart paused as he went up and then down effortlessly. Farm kids climb things, all the things but in this moment, I recognized a trait in my son I hadn’t observed before. My son is not afraid to scale an obstacle to get to what he wants, or away from what he fears. As parents, we need to teach our children to “climb fences” to not look at the obstacle but at the objective. Life is full of obstacles but having the determination to look beyond, to focus and overcome that is our call as Christians. Paul in Philippians speaks as if he has already won the battle because He has, in Christ.
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:20-21 NIV
No matter the trial, the obstacle, the fence, may we climb like Paul, exalting Jesus and bringing glory to God.
Jesus, my savior and friend may I look earnestly towards Heaven when I encounter an obstacle on Earth. May I boldly rest in on the promises found in scripture. May I use this day and all my days to climb fences and bring you glory. -Amen
