I was reading this morning in Galatians, and a verse jumped off the page and into my heart.
Have you ever had that happen?
A verse of scripture you have read countless times before sends shockwaves through your body, like a soundbite from Heaven. This is why it is so important as Christians we spend time in the living Word of God. He can and will use it to help our walk with Him!
As I went about my chores this morning, feeding hay, milking the goats, and trying to figure out why so many baby chicks were running around my pasture (that’s a story for another day), I meditated on this verse.
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
My mind churned over the first part of this verse as I went about my chores,
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me…
Galatians 2:20
I worked through my chores and started to fill bottles for the bottle baby goat kids, as I poured the milk into the top of the bottle the milk all escaped the bottom of the bottle making a large pool on the ground. Spilled milk, I muttered to myself recognizing my mistake, these bottles have a top that comes off and a bottom that comes off for easy cleaning. I forgot to put the cap on the bottom, those pieces were still sitting on my kitchen counter.
I profoundly experienced this verse, what it feels like when we go out on our own, when we do not recognize and live by the truth that as Christians, Christ lives inside us. All that goodness, all that effort simply pours through us and is wasted. Paying attention to the Holy Spirit is the missing piece that allows all that goodness to stay, to grow, and to even pour out the top abundantly. When we recognize the narrow path, when we operate within the will of God, we as Paul put it;
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
I fall short, get knocked off the trail, and make my path more often than I would like to admit. The Lord is abundantly gracious, and he uses His word and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit to draw me back in, to remind me with verses like these that I do not live this life on my own. When Christ died, so did I, and through his resurrection and abundant love, not only am I forgiven, He dwells in me. I am not my own. You are not your own.
Lord, please fill me abundantly that I might overflow with the goodness and love of Jesus Christ, my Savior and King. When I wander, let me seek You. When I make my plans, gently remind me of Your way. Plant verses on my heart today to guide and mentor me. Whatever the day holds, may it draw me closer to you. -Amen
Beautifully said. Thank you! The line “you are not your own”, that brings relief. 👊🏻❤️
