Follow me

Read Time:2 Minute, 24 Second

Our youngest child is three, he has a rich vocabulary and creative mind, if you are ever alone with him, he will talk your ear off. As the youngest there is a strong possibility, he has been coddled ever so slightly by me. He has countless ways to get my attention, the top of the lungs screech “MAAAA MA!” the persistent hit of “Mom, Mom, Mom” or the sweet coo of “Mommy.” When there is something that demands my undivided immediate attention, he does not waste words, he comes to wherever I am at, gets in the middle of whatever I am doing, and says in a direct and urgent voice, “follow me.” He might only be three but the conviction in those two simple words has me leaving whatever project seconds before consumed me and following this child. I was reading the other day in Luke and came across Chapter 5 verses 27-28 Jesus walks into the tax office and says to Levi, “Follow me” and Levi stopped what he was doing, got up, and followed him. If my three-year-old can cause me to wipe the dish suds on my pants and follow him without a second thought imagine the power of those two words when said by Jesus!

It is not the only time in the Bible Jesus uses these words, but as I started digging, I was overcome by the direct power of those two simple words. Jesus said, “follow me” and we get to decide every second of every day how we answer that call.

34 When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Mark 8:34 NKJV

Scripture is our lifeline, our connection to you God. What a beautiful treasure you have bestowed Your children.

Lord, I humbly come before you and give abundant thanks for revealing the wisdom that pours from every page of the Word. Tether me to my Bible, increase my time spent in devotions, fortify my heart, and let the wisdom seep into my soul. Jesus when you speak those two words “follow me” may I always respond with joyful sounds of worship and dish suds covered pants. I love you, Jesus, I will pick up my cross and follow you all my days! -Amen

May the words that flow from me Lord be filled with Your message and when I am obedient may they be backed by the Holy Spirit. When I serve righteously let none of the words, I utter in praise of You fall to the ground. Help me to craft every word, may they pierce hearts and refresh weary souls. This gift is Yours; God I simply aim to use it for your glory.
