It is a jump right in kind of day, so join me in Romans, Chapter 5 verse 7-8 I’ll wait, while you grab your coffee, tea, or a refreshing glass of water.
7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:7-8 NIV
I feel like I need to shout “stop the presses” and bring an old-timey newspaper production area to a full halt because of these two verses written by Paul. Honestly, I have never been in a newspaper production room and I am not sure if that was ever a thing but indulge me.
I pray as you read this you are pulled back to the verses and they burrow into your heart and take create a mighty root. The depravity of the human condition was not a surprise to God. While we were still wading chest-deep in the murky waters of sin, God plucked us up, shook us off, and demonstrated his profound love for us. Jesus did not die for perfect people, even 99.8% perfect people, he died for the hot mess of humanity, deep in sin. If anyone wants to shout “thank you Jesus” right about now, go ahead! Thank you, Jesus!!! I am profoundly struck by these verses, washed with gratefulness and a splash of embarrassment because of my stand-alone unworthiness.
God words cannot express my gratefulness for your consuming grace and love. There are no throwaway people in Jesus, you blanketed sinners with your blood poured freely for us. I find redemption in Him. Jesus, my savior, and friend thank you for this priceless gift. I love you, Jesus. -Amen
May the words that flow from me Lord be filled with Your message and when I am obedient may they be backed by the Holy Spirit. When I serve righteously let none of the words, I utter in praise of You fall to the ground. Help me to craft every word, may they pierce hearts and refresh weary souls. This gift is Yours; God I simply aim to use it for your glory.
