I dislike Daylight Saving time, scratch that, I strongly dislike DST. It messes with sleep schedules and just makes everything feel weird.
My children have a light in their room that turns green when they can get up. All week long I have been messing with that light, trying to get them enough sleep. Daylight Saving time leaves me in a general state of annoyance be it Spring forward or Fall back. Thankfully the Lord can use my annoyance for good, He can take my general displeasure and shine a light so bright it overpowers all my annoyance and brings me back to where I belong, rooted deeply into the Word of God.
Time is a human creation we are either on time, early, or late for everything, but God is not bound by time. Messing with time is just an illusion, we have done nothing to alter the divine rhythm God established at Creation. We are like children playing with tiny army men pretending the outcome of our battle matters.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
Genesis 1:14-19 NIV
Daylight Saving time reminds me of the silliness of human endeavors and the all-consuming power of God. How to meddle as we might, we are not in control, and it is not about the time on your watch it’s about the will of God over your life.
17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
1 John 2:17 NIV
Lord, thank you for helping me to focus on what really matters. Reminding me that it is not about me, it is about you. That time as we know it is just an illusion of flawed humans on earth. You who hung the stars in the sky, your reign is infinite, and as this world and the inhabitants pass away those who serve you await treasure in Heaven. Glory to God, forever and ever, Amen.
