Last Fall traveling in a remote area of the state on a dirt road I was praying and talking to the Lord. I had committed myself earlier that month to pray more than I spoke so a long drive on a dusty dirt road in the middle of nowhere was perfect. As I turned a corner, I felt the Lord say, “this is your life”.
It was so profound I stopped and took a photo. I did not know what exactly the meaning was and honestly, I was a little taken aback. I was gazing at a large old building in the distance on a rolling hill that had seen better days. The walls were all standing but there was a slope, and the roof was missing pieces.
I kept praying and asking for clarity. Ten minutes later I round another bend there is another building in disrepair, with no roof, falling sides, and 40-foot spruce growing out the top, I burst into laughter because I get it. The second building is no longer my life. Thanks be to God’s work, praise God!
6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:6: NIV
My life is far from perfect, but I rest faithfully in the fact that God is not done with me yet. I think of a beautiful quote by Brother Lawrence a 16th century Monk.
My God I am completely devoted to you. Lord remake me according to your heart.
Brother Lawrence, The Practice of the Presence of God translated by Marshall Davis pg. 39-40
God, I know you are not done with me yet, may every breath I take be devoted to you and your good work. When I stumble as I often do, let me lift my voice to you in confession and prayers for grace knowing your love and mercy abound. -Amen
