If you asked me what my favorite book in the Bible is, I would be hard-pressed to answer. When read in its entirety the book of Job is incredibly powerful, but I would stumble over many of the letters written by Paul which hold a special place in my heart, and then there is James and Jude and of course Luke and Matthew. I could go on and on both Old Testament and New Testament, but you would never hear me say Revelation.
Confession time, I have never read the entire book of Revelation. I am not sure I can convey this as intended but I will do my best. There is strong resistance to reading Revelation, and if/when I read from that book, I can only digest tiny chunks at a time. As if the words are too emotionally charged for me to handle. I have committed to finishing this book of Revelation. You never know I might report back that it is one of my favorite books! For today I want to highlight Revelation 5:12, but if you are reading with me please start at 5:1 for the full picture. Talk about a heart-wrenching chapter of scripture:
So I wept much because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll or look at it.
Revelation 5:4 NKJV
My heart physically aches when I read this verse, I can feel the overwhelming soul-crushing pain John must have felt during this vision after spending his entire life sharing the gospel. Ugh.
But then verse 12:
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!
Revelation 5:12 NKJV
Jesus is worthy!! He shed His blood for us, He suffered and died on the Cross, He took on the burden of our sins. He redeemed us. I cannot help but cry soft tears of thanksgiving as I read this verse. I can feel the burden of His sacrifice and it weighs heavy on my heart. As we approach Easter in a few short weeks let us not forget Revelation, He is the one and only. Worthy is the Lamb! -Amen
