My King, my Lord, my Savior,
It is hard to fathom Your suffering on the Cross. I think of your sacrifice often and I imagine the immense heartbreak your friends, family, and followers felt on that day, just a few short days after being ushered into town with a celebration, what we call Palm Sunday. Maybe Hebrew or Greek could more eloquently capture the crushing pain and torture you endured, a perfect man upon the Cross in a sea of sinners for my words fall short.
Even in your final breaths, calling out.
34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
Luke 23:34 NKJV
Thud, such a profound thing to say as people place bets, gamble off your belonging, and Your mother and followers are standing by. I think of the scene around your death, and it is hard to not feel unworthy of it all. Yet, You died for me, lavishing forgiveness on a fallen people.
Then you rose again.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 NKJV
I imagine the beauty of that reunion in Heaven, I can almost hear the trumpets. Words cannot begin to properly articulate my humble gratitude for salvation through Your sacrifice upon the Cross. Jesus thank you for the beautiful gift of salvation through You.
Jesus, the thought of Your suffering that day is almost too much to bear, but it is called Good Friday for a reason. Your death upon the Cross became the complete sacrifice for our sins. By Your stripes Lord we are healed. Thank you, Lord, for the love You instructed in life and the love You showed in death, a deep river of eternal love for Your people. I will use this day to honor Your sacrifice and treasure the gift of forgiveness with my thoughts and actions.
-Amen
May the words that flow from me Lord be filled with Your message and when I am obedient may they be backed by the Holy Spirit. When I serve righteously let none of the words, I utter in praise of You fall to the ground. Help me to craft every word, may they pierce hearts and refresh weary souls. This gift is Yours; God I simply aim to use it for your glory. -Love Cortney
