Today marks the anniversary of the day Jesus, OUR Savior was physically broken and left dead, nailed to the Cross on Golgotha aka Calvary. It is a heart-wrenching image, and I am sure many in attendance were overcome with unexplainable grief as they watched the murder of the Son of God. Even a Roman soldier who was involved in the crucifixion as his post recognized Jesus as the Messiah in the final moments of His life on Earth.
39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”
Mark 15:39 NKJV
Good Friday did not feel good to those experiencing it, even for those filled with faith, this was a dark and somber day. We have the luxury of perspective through scripture and we can humbly accept the immense sacrifice Jesus made that day for each of us. Interestingly enough, ISIS terrorists refer to Christians as “people of the cross” a mocking term tying us to that day our Savior was killed, a way to pinpoint the weakness of our faith. There is an unexpected splendor in that phrase, we are true “people of the Cross” and we should reverently celebrate today as Good Friday because our salvation through Christ was only made possible by His sacrifice on that Cross. In three short days, we celebrate His resurrection!
Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice on the Cross and the gift of salvation through You. I am nothing more than a sinner saved by grace. We are people of the Cross, Your people and we love you, Lord.
May the words that flow from me Lord be filled with Your message and when I am obedient may they be backed by the Holy Spirit. When I serve righteously let none of the words, I utter in praise of You fall to the ground. Help me to craft every word, may they pierce hearts and refresh weary souls. This gift is Yours; God I simply aim to use it for your glory. Love -Cortney
