Do you ever feel like the world is spinning out of control?
Maybe an hour, day, week, or month got away from you? When you emerged from the clutter of life, and felt like you could finally catch your breath there before you loomed another hill to climb? I think of the song from Finding Nemo that Dory sings to calm herself. Remember it? “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming what do we do? We swim, swim, swim…”
There are months of my life I cannot get back because I was so driven to achieve, to tackle every hurdle, to win at life no matter the cost that it cost me everything else, it consumed me like a raging fire. You cannot “win” yourself into Heaven there is no “winner” in life. There is no checklist that once complete makes you righteous. Maybe what I needed most, was not to keep swimming but to be still.
Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalms 46:10 NKJV
And in 2 Chronicles 20:17 God tells the inhabitants of Jerusalem when they are outmanned and underequipped for a battle that,
“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.”
2 Chronicles 20:17 NKJV
I do not know what the Lord is telling you in this season of your life, but I know that when I am in the middle of a human tornado often all I can hear is my voice, not His and that is not good.
One of my favorite passages of scripture, Job Chapter 37 and 38 (read the entire book it makes those chapters especially profound).
“Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.”
Job 37:14 NKJV
Are you on the side of a mountain barely hanging on? Call out to God, be still, look for the wondrous works of God and listen. Since creation God has preserved His masterpiece. Strong’s Concordance defines preservation as “that continuous agency of God by which He maintains in existence the things He has created together with the properties and powers with which He has endowed them.” God has ALWAYS been in control, stop swimming and let your mighty Father in Heaven give you rest and direction.
Lord, forgive me for the times I put my priorities above Yours. For the times I was too busy to listen and to learn. For the times I picked my battles and did not lean on You for guidance and support. Help me to quiet my mind and practice stillness when everything feels out of control. Anchor me in Your Word and remind me of Your plan. Thank you, God, Amen.
May the words that flow from me Lord be filled with Your message and when I am obedient may they be backed by the Holy Spirit. When I serve righteously let none of the words, I utter in praise of You fall to the ground. Help me to craft every word, may they pierce hearts and refresh weary souls. This gift is Yours; God I simply aim to use it for your glory.
