There is profound beauty in a text that can not only weather the test of time but thrive and grow. Each time I am in the Bible I am left in awe at the wake of deep wisdom in every verse. Sometimes when I read a passage a verse, I have struggled to understand is illuminated other times a verse I have read many times collects new relevancy to my life. Join me on this journey to uncover all the treasure in the Word of God!

15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man.

Mark 7:15 NKJV

I tend to think the polarization of society is a 21st Century problem but the reality is, polarization, the “us vs them” mentality was alive and well when Jesus walked. The trendy issues might not be the same as they were with the Pharisees, but we still are tempted to sprinkle judgment on our brothers and sisters. The tendency to sort people, to define them by what they do, or what they do not is alive and well.

Jesus is clear in this verse, it is the darkened heart that defiles a person, not the maintaining or rejecting of external rituals and laws. Search me, Lord, what am I growing in my heart? Is there an abscess of judgment growing in my heart if so, lance it and set me free!

Keeping a pure heart, committing to the renewing process each day, and rejecting the evil that can flourish in a darkened heart is our call.

Jesus, please help me, renew my heart this day. May my struggles be placed at your feet. Mend my heart Lord one stitch at a time and make me whole. -Amen

May the words that flow from me Lord be filled with Your message and when I am obedient may they be backed by the Holy Spirit. When I serve righteously let none of the words, I utter in praise of You fall to the ground. Help me to craft every word, may they pierce hearts and refresh weary souls. This gift is Yours; God I simply aim to use it for your glory.
