It is that day of the year when we reflect, and many make commitments an intention or word to start the next year. Although well-meaning, most of these commitments fail to make it to Easter. Like a child with a new toy, the excitement quickly wains and before we even realize it, that commitment is just a dust-covered memory.
So quickly we retreat to old habits, we become immersed in what the world offers, and we are tossed about by the changing tides of society, fear this, loathe that, buy this, wear that. Modern society is a carousel everyone just going around and around, waiting until the ride stops to get off, no matter the cost. You can get off that carousel at any time.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
We have been endowed by our Creator with a sound mind, self-control, and love! We are not creatures of fear or nervousness. Do you believe it? Do you have quiet confidence in your heart and a peace that only comes from Jesus?
It is hard to live in this world, with 24/7 news cycles, social media, and an alternate universe living in your smartphone without losing your way. Wandering away from the infallible truth that lies in scripture. It’s okay, we all stumble, I more than most. When you reflect on this year, when you think about your 2022 resolution, I implore you to make that word Jesus, make that verse John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

Get off the carousel, trust your sound mind, and do not give in to the spirit of fear.
