We have a chicken named Peaches, and she has been an egg eater since the day we adopted her several years ago. This means she will find eggs and crack them open and eat them. Peaches should have been killed for this behavior as it is contagious in the flock, but she received a pardon from my children and under duress I complied. Peaches has wanted to be a “mommy” on many occasions. Things like going broody, sitting on eggs, and displaying all the signs of a protective hen sitting on a nest until the fateful day she reverted to her old ways and destroyed the nest. We have even on occasion encouraged her desire to raise chicks by giving her eggs, with the same outcome EVERY time. Peaches is an egg eater, incapable of being anything else. Right?
Here is Peaches with her little brood of week-old chicks.
She hatched them on the haystack and has been a diligent mother, protecting them day and night. She has not lost a single chick. So, this makes me think about a verse of scripture
Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.
NKJV Luke 12:6
If Peaches the chicken can change, what is standing in your way? You are loved and known by your Father in Heaven. God wants a personal relationship with you. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows (Matthew 10:29-31). I have the faith that if a Peaches the chicken can change and grow, so can we.
