A journey into Psalms 32, written by David, is often titled The Joy of Forgiveness.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Psalms 32: 1-2

Jesus died on the cross for us, our sin is forgiven by grace with a sacrifice we are unable to repay. It is our job to confess our sin, this is not a one and done, sin is a part of the human condition and part of our dialogue with God should include repentance. If after confessing your sin, recognize that you are forgiven any shame that remains tethers you to the past. God does not want you tethered to sin through shame. Please ask for healing! And if you need me to pray with you reach out.

3 When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah

Psalms 32: 3-5 NKJV

Groaning in verse 3, commonly referred to as complaining. When we complain instead of confessing there are consequences to our physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Are you a complainer? Been there done that, have the medal. I have spent far too much time trying to point out to others all the things wrong in life. Complaining is like trying to teach a pig to sing, it annoys the pig and makes you look foolish (see note at end of the post). But the worst result of complaining is it pushes the focus away from God, it is toxic.

Philippians 2:14, Do all things without complaining and disputing.

NKJV

Stop complaining and start confessing. This is what this looks like in my daily life, lots of muttering to myself while I pick up random shoes and articles of clothing from around our home. Seriously how many people live in this home! Grumble, grumble, grumble. Drawing attention to my thoughts and challenging them, confessing, and focusing on gratitude for the blessings that abound in this shoe-filled home.

5 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Psalms 32:5 NKJV

Complaining shifts the focus, confession is the great equalizer. God thank you for the precious gift of forgiveness, my sin is covered by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. I want to be close to you and I know complaining pushes me away. I am sorry God. When I stray, convict my heart Lord, remind me of your abounding love, patience, and grace. I want to shine as a light in this world. -Amen

NOTE: Although my wording is not the same, the intent is the same, Pig quote credit was given to Robert Heinlein. I have not read his work, do not suggest his work, and only found out that he should receive credit via a Google search for this post. This is a common phrase known to me but out of respect, I want to make sure I give credit.
